Randomness of Kazane

Finally, my first year in university have concluded yesterday with the last of the dreaded exams and terrible scores.....

Anyway, its time for a post just cuz I feel like it.

An anime post a day keeps the reality at bay >_<

And now today topic is .........

ODEX

A couple of weeks ago LAsuka was telling me about the famed ODEX saga that happened in the past in small island country Singapore. At first, I was shocked and bewildered by the whole incident as I have no memory of such an event. Slowly by surely, small bits and pieces of my memory are coming back to me like crawling out of the woodwork.

The most important piece of memory I recalled was that my best friend who terrified by ODEX heavy handed tactics in dealing with piracy actually went to buy one of their product. The complete dvd set of the series: Argento Soma.

What he shown me was truly spectacular and amazing. The video ain't half bad except its totally bad. You name it, you got it. Bad subs, lags, screen tearing, sound desynchronization and random pixilation. Truly an abomination. The act of burning the dvds is insulting towards the incinerator who has to accept this loathsome piece of filth and the idea of drawing doodles on it is like encasing it in gold. No anime of this quality should be sold to the public, it should be illegal. No, it must be made illegal.

So all in all, they are suing anyone who DL anime in Singapore and asking for out of court settlement fees from them. Truly an outrage considering the quality of their videos. Since then, they have been lying low and staying out of sight for years without going into bankruptcy. Truly a miracle.

That enough ranting from me for now, until next time folks.

Yours Sincerely
Kazane Kagari

A Primer to Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works] Part III: REVELATIONS

Welcome to the third instalment of my Primer to Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works] series, where I attempt to explain the Fate-verse (or Nasu-verse, after the creator of Fate/Stay Night, Kinoko Nasu) to first-time viewers of the aforementioned anime. This time, we shall dwell on some of the actual story elements of the anime.

If you wish to read the first two parts - and if you haven't, I suggest you do - then you may access them below:

Part I: INTRODUCTION
Part II: THE HOLY GRAIL WAR

NOTE: The following is based on the events of Fate/Stay Night [Unlimited Blade Works] only, up to episode 18 which is the latest episode at time of writing. As the series continues, I will be updating this post. Also, do note that this post will continually be a work in progress until further notice.

SPOILERS ABOUND. IF YOU INTEND TO WATCH THE SERIES, AND/OR HAVE NOT WATCHED THE LATEST EPISODE. DO NOT CONTINUE OR RISK SPOILING YOURSELF.
Likewise, insofar as the anime has revealed, I will not be spoiling any further than the anime.

The Fifth Holy Grail War

The Holy Grail War (for more information read Part II) is a event that usually happens every sixty years, as it takes that amount of time for the Holy Grail to accumulate enough mana to activate. However, the fifth Holy Grail War began a mere ten years after the fourth Holy Grail War. This is because the fourth Holy Grail War, chronicled in Fate/Zero, did not end with a conclusive victory, and thus the excess mana was kept until sufficient mana was accumulated to begin a fifth war.

Holy Grail - Great Grail and Lesser Grail

The true Holy Grail that has the power to grant wishes is known as the Great Grail. However, since the Great Grail cannot manifest itself in the human realm, a vessel known as the Lesser Grail is required to access it. The Lesser Grail, essentially is a container to house the Great Grail. Initially, it was a literal 'cup', but has henceforth been turned into a homunculus with means of protecting and managing itself after the initial 'cup' was destroyed in a prior war.

Avalon

Avalon is the hallowed scabbard of Excalibur, and is the catalyst used to summon Saber both in the fourth and fifth Holy Grail War. The holder of the scabbard is granted potent healing, allowing for critical and even fatal wounds to be rapidly healed. It is what allows Emiya Shirou to survive a stab in the heart by Lancer's Gae Bolg, and after being stabbed multiple times by Archer. Emiya Kiritsugu transplanted Avalon into Emiya Shirou in order to save his life as he found him dying in the Great Fire. It is less potent without the contract, but it still offers its limited immortality ability as long as Saber is in close proximity.

Please tell me in the comments if there's anything else mentioned in the show that you do not understand, and I'll try to address it here to the best of my abilities.
ONCE AGAIN, DO NOT VISIT THE WIKIA PAGE TO FIND ANSWERS AS YOU WILL SPOIL YOURSELF AND DESTROY THE TRUE EXPERIENCE OF THE SHOW.

Anime Bites 3: We're Deres, duh!

...And its time for another installment of our Anime Bites series!
*applause* (A wonderful delusion)

If you would like to read previous entries in the series, see below:

Anime Bites 1: Appreciating Slice of Life
Anime Bites 2: Otakus United

This time, we shall be venturing into a very common character archetype found in almost every anime out there. This archetype is so prevalent, and you probably think you know about it. However, you will soon see that there is no greater fallacy then that. And this character archetypes are the 'deres'.

Just a nice script. What the hell was I thinking...?

What the heck are deres?

Basically, dere is derived from the Japanese term deredere which means lovey-dovey or lovestruck and is used to describe a variety of different sub-archetypes of moe. Since its inception, it has become a significant part of the otaku moe phenomenon and has become so widespread and synonymous with anime that almost every anime has at least one character which is a dere.
What do you mean you haven't seen this!? Hmph!

While dere characters usually apply exclusively for females, male dere characters – while rare – do exist.
There are four main types of deres: tsundere, kuudere, dandere and yandere. Each has their own dynamic personality and character traits, and they share many similarities and differences.
Basically, a dere usually have the following traits:
  • The main character, usually the romantic interest of the dere character, cannot be a dere himself
  • The dere should be a person very close to the main character, integral to the plot and interacts a lot with the main character.
  • The switch: the essential point of the dere. Around the main character, the dere will show their affectionate side whereas among other characters, they will show their normally cold and indifferent demeanour.

Tsundere
The original dere. The tsun from tsundere comes from tsuntsun which means to have a superiority complex, being aloof and high and mighty. Usually involves a girl who initially treats everyone, especially the main character with scorn and sarcasm, but eventually opens up and become affectionate.
'nuff said
The most common reason why a tsundere acts they way they do is because they are inexperienced in love and have no idea how to express their romantic feelings and are very embarrassed when they try to display acts of affection, covering them up by acting belligerent, egoistical and even becoming violent. They are extremely prone to blushing and have a constant inner struggle, with their affection for their romantic interest contradicting with their pride and need to keep up appearances. A surefire way to identify a tsundere is when the use the cliché phrase:
“I-It’s not like I l-l-l-l-like you or anything! Get it!?”

or
I-Idiot! It's not like I meant to do that! Stupid... d-don't get any funny ideas!”
Yup. You've definitely heard something along those lines, haven't you? Its often followed by a slap or a violent outburst.
You better get ready for a real beating...

Examples: Katsura Hinagiku (Hayate), Taiga (Toradora), anything Kugimiya Rie

Kuudere
Kuudere is much simpler to figure out. ‘kuu’ actually comes from the Japanese pronunciation of the English word ‘cool’, and is hence a clever wordplay. Usually involves a girl who is calm, collected and is very indifferent towards almost anything. They never panic and are always in control. Underneath the façade of indifferent hides an emotional and affectionate side, and will only be revealed under the influence of the romantic interest – the main character.
Come on. How cool is that?!
Kuuderes have a variety of reasons why they do not express their feelings, perhaps they have been hurt in the past, or perhaps they need to keep up appearances or maybe they just genuinely unemotional. Either way, they usually appear cold and interacts coldly with most people until a certain main character penetrates her icy outer shell.
Examples: Saber (Fate/Stay Night), Tachibana Kanade (Angel Beats)
Not gonna lie. This is just an excuse to put a cute girl here.

Dandere
Commonly confused with kuudere, the dandere is in fact a completely different character altogether, though it does share similar traits with the kuudere. The ‘dan’ from dandere comes from the Japanese word ‘danmari’ which means silence. As the name suggests, a dandere is a very silent person who comes off as antisocial as she avoids speaking or contact with anybody.
Yuki is a kuudere in the original Suzumiya
Yuki is a dandere in the Disappearance movies.
Yuki is also a dandere in her own TV series.

Danderes in fact might want to be sociable, but are genuinely shy and too embarassed to initiate a conversation with any person. They often keep to themselves and are usually socially awkward. Of course, as with other deres, when the special someone arrives, he ultimately removes her inhibitions and makes her able to look beyond her shell, and with his protection, she will begin to becomes more sociable.
Examples: Yuki Nagato (Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya), Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket)

Yandere
Oh yes. There is also the yandere. The stuff of Nightmares.“Yan” comes from the Japanese term “yanderu” which means to be sick or mentally ill. Yanderes are recently becoming more and more popular, even in mainstream anime and it seems like it is a continuing trend. Yanderes are in short, insane. Yanderes are almost always bishoujos and initially comes across a cute and sweet, until someone or something flips her switch.
Uh-oh. Run away. Fast. Now.

Obsession of a love interest is the trademark of a yandere, and anything that tries to separate her from her romantic interest will cause her to become dangerously violent, to the point of even being bloodthirsty and murderous. The yandere appears psychotic and mentally unstable – capable of doing just about anything when it comes to making sure her loved one is hers alone.
There are other types of yandere, but the most dangerous of all is the possessive yandere. This sort of yandere believe that by eating their lover, they will be one forever. Forgive my harsh language, but that is just plain disgusting. Period. Fortunately, they are particularly rare… probably... hopefully...
Examples: Lucy (Elfen Lied), Kotonoha (School Days), Gasai Yuuno (Mirai Nikki)
Holy shit! That's batshit crazy!

And that's it. Bet you didn't everything there is to know about the deres, did you? Many people can commonly refer and relate to tsundere or yandere, but the kuudere and dandere seems to constantly elude them... but now you know better. Well... its looks like that's all I have. Until next time!

Anime Bites 02: Otakus United

Welcome to my second installment of the Anime Bites series, where we shall discuss some of the oft-mentioned, but never truly explained bits of the anime world. This time, let us learn more about our anime-loving brethren - the Otaku.

Yeah. That's who we are.

Otaku – cultural definition and brief history

The word Otaku began around the early 1980s and used to be a psuedo-offensive word about someone with an obsessive interest in a particular subject. The subject need not necessarily be limited to just anime (and other Japanese entertainment media), but it seems that the majority of otakus refer to anime otakus. Otakus were meant to be a derogatory term, and was akin to calling someone a geek and for a time that was all it meant.

Would you speak to someone like this on the streets?

In the last two decades however, the term otaku has gained global recognition and has become somewhat synonymous with being an anime fan. Nowadays, anime fans take pride in being called an otaku and even those with a remote interest in anime call themselves an otaku.

The truth

Otaku has no standardised meaning. It differs from person to person. What majority will agree is that being an otaku means having a passion for anime, and Japanese entertainment media in general. There is no shame in admitting that you have a passion for something unique, even if it is something not universally accepted - that is why we are all closet otakus. But let us take solace that we are not alone, and that the otaku family will continue to grow; from strength to strength and prevail in the times to come. Most of all, let us embrace the Akiba Spirit!

An excuse to put an anime girl here.

Moe – cultural definition and implications

There is a term synonymous with anime. A term so pervasive and yet so oblique that one cannot have known about anime without knowing this term. And this term is moe.

Yeah, keep it coming!!

Moeru (nominalized as moe) is a simple Japanese verb meaning ‘to bud or sprout,’ and is homophonous with the verb ‘to burn.’ The word moe first appeared in a now famous bulletin board website 2Chan in a discussion of young, cute, innocent anime girls and a ‘burning passion’ for them. Despite the general cultural definition of moe, in reality moe simply refers to a euphoric response to fantasy characters or representations of them.

moe + chunnibyou = win!

Beyond that definition, however, moe can refer to anything cute and 2-dimensional. Otakus generally define moe as a reaction to characters that are more sincere and pure than human beings, describing it as ‘the ultimate expression of male platonic love’ and ‘more rewarding that real love’. Moe is more commonly associated with young, media savvy otakus or hardcore fans of Japanese entertainment media (anime, manga, and videogames).

Moe began in the realm of subculture, but has since become part of the Japanese mass anime culture. Although its use is common parlance in Japan, it remains oblique to the rest of the world. Often, its definition is simply skimmed over and never openly questioned. Hence, moe is commonly misunderstood as a form of fetish, which is usually extended to otakus and anime culture in general.

But seriously, can you say no to this...?

The otaku moe phenomenon could be said to begin with the rise of the Japanese entertainment media producing fantasy ideals with consumer culture providing material to support those fantasies. Characters designed to be moe has proved to be widely popular and fuelled by the Japanese weakness for moe, the market has expanded exponentially. As of 2011, Anime News Network (ANN) has estimated the moe market to be worth 88 billion yen (about US$740 million).

Yeah, 88 000 000 000, count that!

But as we move into 2015 and beyond, the moe market has been slowing down and the number of moe shows are increasingly decreasing. However, the moe market is not nearing a close, but rather, the nature of moe is changing. Maturing anime viewers seek for more multi-dimensional characters beyond the moe, characters with depth and emotions beyond their cuteness. There is much to learn from the otaku moe phenomenon. As a lasting virtue of anime culture, it tells us much about Japanese culture and human psyche.

Yeah, another excuse to put cute girls. This time, five of them

The Anime Community and Fandom

The international anime community is considerably large, and this is evidenced all too well by the anime online community. There are thousands upon thousands of fan-run websites blogs, and yes, online communities in the form of forums and discussion rooms. The internet has become the avenue of choice for anime fans to demonstrate their passion and display their artwork or anime-inspired work in general. The potential of the anime community is huge and even those who consider themselves casual fans usually engage in discussions and debates about their favourite anime. With all the subtle nuances and foreshadowing in every anime episode, there is no lack of topics to discuss about and many blogs even take to blogging each episode separately to give their opinion of the happenings in each episode, giving an insight into every episode, which stimulates the community even further.

You are witness to one of said anime blogs.

The economic potential of the anime community has been recognised and people have begun to tap on it. That is why anime conventions have sprung up over the world. The large amount of merchandise that anime comes with have been a key factor to the profitability of the anime community. Which leads me to my next point

With the intense amount of passion and personal-level intimacy of anime, every anime will spawn a considerable number of merchandise and collectibles for fans to buy. From music CDs to character figurines, the anime community has immense economic potential. These merchandise do not come cheap. A standard size anime figurine can easily cost upwards of a hundred US dollars. Yet they are still one of the most widely purchased and coveted collectibles of the anime fandom market.

Just a microcosm of how many figurines there are on sale
Music CDs are also very popular in the anime fandom market, given that every anime has at least one opening and ending theme, and a wide variety of background musics and sounds. Inserts are also fairly common, and it is not uncommon to see every character getting a specific character CDs with songs sung by the character seiyuu. For music-based anime such as K-On!, the different types of album CDs (including singles) can easily number close to a hundred.

OK, these aren't CDs. They're doujins. But you get the point.

Collectible artbooks are also part of the merchandise that is on display. These artbooks feature pictures and original artwork drawn by the artists. As anime and animation in general is appreciated or even regarded as a form of art, the initial artwork drawn by the artists can be a very valuable commodity, especially for hard-core anime fans.

An otaku's room? Pretty much.

As mentioned earlier, seiyuus are a huge part of the anime fan community. Since anime is such a huge industry in Japan, anime voice acting can be said to be an industry in its own right, Many Japanese seiyuus have done voices for a number of different anime characters and fans of their voice range, versatility and ability to invoke emotion have their own fan following.

'nuff said.

The anime fandom is unlike anything that can be found in America. The most popular shows in America may spawn some merchandise such as stationery, bags, T-shirts and maybe a few figures, but that’s it. The anime fandom explores so much more, with character songs for every character, extensive figurines in different poses and outfits, artbooks and all other collectibles definitely outstrip anything America has to offer by leaps and bounds. This conveys the message to the anime fandom that it is worthwhile to become immersed into any anime, even bordering on obsession.

The Otaku spirit is well and truly alive, and one must wonder what else is yet to come in the future!

Anime Bites 01: Appreciating Slice of Life

Welcome to the first installment of my ever-unpopular Anime Bites series. In it, we shall discuss some of the oft-mentioned, but never truly explained bits of the anime world. We shall all try to increase our anime knowledge, because even as Closet Otakus, learning never ends. Shall we see whose power can exceed 9000?

...Okay. Lame joke. Let's begin.

This week's topic is *drumroll* APPRECIATING SLICE-OF-LIFE

O_o

SLICE-OF-LIFE? That KyoAni Bullshit?

Slice-of-Life (henceforth SOL) is a genre of anime that basically showcases ordinary people doing ordinary things in an ordinary life. It is also commonly referred to as that 'cute-girls-doing-cute-things' (CGDCT) anime. And it cannot be denied that som- okay the most part of it is true. SOL shows do showcase regular people having that regular life, and it just so happens that these people are usually female. But it doesn't showcase some badass main character that girls fall over for no particular reason, nor does it show an intelligent anti-hero beating the pants of the ruler of a empire. By all means, it should be boring.

Except its not.

Yup. Five-girl rock band is so not cool. Totally.

Kyoto Animation (KyoAni) has carved a niche all for itself in SOL. And they're widely regarded as one of the better animation studios around (although they've been in a slump for a while now). But regardless of whether you like their studio or not, one needs to wonder how a studio producing boring shows can survive in a cutthroat world of anime where various shows compete for your time.

There must be some appeal, right?

Can you see the appeal HERE?

Appeal of Slice of Life

Is there some hidden gem in SOL shows? What is their appeal? Its very hard to answer these questions on the surface. After all, our lives themselves are boring enough - why bother watching anything that adds to our boredom? But perhaps we are overlooking the mere fact that it is by these SOL shows performing familiar actions that we are endeared by them. It is because we perform the same things, and we react the same way that we can relate to them. And anyone that knows anything about storytelling can tell you that relatability is one of the factors of a successful character.

...Or maybe not
Some shows purposefully include SOL elements simply to make their characters more relatable. Evidence? Think of the number of shows that feature high school elements despite their main focus being elsewhere. Off the top of my head - Fate/Stay Night, Code Geass, Death Note, Bakemonogatari. All A-list shows and they all include SOL elements.

Humour is a great part of SOL shows. Most SOL shows will feature humour prominently, or at least in some form in the show. Humour can be caused by the various character antics played by their differing personalities bouncing off one another. Or it can be the standard japanese boke-tsukkomi (straight man and comedian) slapstick comedy routine. It may be hit-and-miss, but its usually pretty spot-on, since its related to the life we live in. If you're a fan of humour and comedy, then SOL is the natural choice. And since character personalities plays a great part in the humour, if we can relate to similar personalities in people we know in real life - that's another plus.

Although I'm not sure you find rainbow-haired people in real life

Taking the Plunge

Of course SOL is not for everybody, but if you're one of those that vehemently oppose watching it due to their very nature, I strongly recommend you to just watch one, and decide for yourself whether its for you or not. If nothing else, SOL shows are a good palate cleanser between doses of adrenaline-charged anime. I personally find that SOL shows brings something unique to the anime table, and its unique perspectives is quite refreshing.

Yes. A compelling show about ordinary characters. Really.

SOL shows may not simply be just about ordinary school life; it actually comprises of a plethora of themes and genres, which may or may not be ordinary. A good SOL show to start would be Hyouka, a show which I consider is one of KyoAni's finest. Its about a highly intelligent but otherwise ordinary high school guy and his bunch of friends solving common, everyday mysteries but it is very compelling. Otherwise, you may want to start with the quintessential K-ON!, a veritably legendary anime which has gained infamy of epic proportions. Or you may want to start with Love Live! School Idol Project - a show which I initially resisted watching until one day I decided to just watch a single episode and got hooked.

Come on, how can you say no to that!?

To be fair, there are good and bad SOL shows. If you do watch a poor one, then the criticisms are valid - it may be the most boring thing you had the misfortune of watching. But isn't that true for all other genres of anime. If you go watch a good one, though - it might just be your new favourite genre of anime.

What are you waiting for? Take the Plunge!

Randomness of Kazane Kagari

Anime review of Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru / Zoku

It is a anime that I was told by my younger cousin to watch due to the fact I am a very negative and pessimistic person just like the MC Hikigaya Hachiman but after one cour and 5 episodes in season 2, I have to say that he is the epitome of a lone warrior who has braved many battles and hardships and lived to tell the tale in this grand game known commonly as life. His distorted views on the world, people and relationships aren't due to negativity or being pessimistic. Its through own personal experience and painful memories that are etched deeply into his brain and ultimately led him to become a philosopher who preach his worldly wisdom in each episode......

Needlessly to say, lady luck ain't his friend or kind to him while gravity is a bitch to him. He is an apathetic, isolated, and friendless loner in class with no friends and no one would approach him albeit that the way he likes it.

The following below are some of the most famous quotes in anime history(Personal opinion):

Animals generally form groups. Carnivores have a hierarchy, and those that don’t manage to get to the top of the food chain will live a life of constant stress. Herbivores have their own problems, like being forced to abandon their own survive enemy attacks. As you can see, being in a group brings no advantages to the individual. Thus, I choose to be the bear, a beast that refuses to form groups with others. It’s an animal of isolation that’s not at all worried about its solitary lifestyle. Let’s not forget that bears get to hibernate as well. Oh, what a wonderful existence. If I’m ever reincarnated, I most certainly would like to be reborn as a bear.
 By Hachiman Hikigaya

I hate nice girls. Just exchanging pleasantries with them makes me curious, and texting each other makes me feel restless. If I get a call, for the rest of the day, I’ll keep checking my call history with a stupid grin on my face. But I know the truth. They’re just being nice. Anyone nice to me is nice to others too. But I always find myself on the verge of forgetting that. If the truth is a cruel mistress, then a lie must be a nice girl. And so, niceness is a lie. I would always hold expectation. I would always misunderstand. At some point, I stopped hoping. An experienced loner never falls for the same trap twice. A lone warrior, surviving hundreds of battles. When it comes to losing, I’m the strongest. That’s why, no matter what happens, I will always hate nice girls.
By Hachiman Hikigaya

In essence, language accounts for a mere 30% of human communication. The other 70% is made up of information collected from eye movements and other body language. With that, even a loner who never takes part in conversation can pull off 70% of what we consider communication.
By Hachiman Hikigaya

Saying “I can change myself” is just admitting defeat in order to adapt to this cold cruel world, so that you can be its slave.  It’s no more than a basis for deceiving yourself and decorating it with pretty words.
By Hachiman Hikigaya

That was dangerous. If I were a normal male, I would’ve fallen in love with her there. Trying to find meaning in simple coincidences and ordinary happenings is a bad habit of unpopular guys. I don’t believe in fate, destiny, or chance.
By Hachiman Hikigaya

“The important thing is to take part.” Famous words spoken by Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin during a speech. However, this quote tends to be frequently misused and serves as kind of a threat to force participation. There are tons of wild-goose chases in this world, you know. If the most important thing is to take part, then surely one could find meaning in not taking part as well. And if everything’s worth experiencing, then there’s little doubt that the feeling of not experiencing something is, in itself, worth experiencing. In fact, you could even call it a valuable experience to not experience something everyone else does.
By Hachiman Hikigaya

(My favourite quote >_< )

As always, your opinions are welcome below in the comment section.

Random Review By Kazane Kagari

Game Review/Introduction

In case you viewers are wondering, this blog is dedicated to anime, manga, Japanese culture and all that have to do with otaku-ism. LAsuka is covering anime reviews while I will be doing manga, games and also some anime reviews occasionally if the situation arise....my urge to write.

The topic for today is........
An extremely nostalgic game for me

I decided to introduce LAsuka to this game, Recettear.

An anime-ish indie game title in 2007 with unique shop operating mechanics combine with good old school dungeon crawling adventures and adequate voice actings. What else can I say, its good, very good considering the budget and the developers behind it are a couple of nobodies at that time. Well done EasyGameStation, u made a good impressionable game that I still remember till now.

The only bad thing about this game is that it make me feel old...... (._.)

Recette Lemongrass is an innocent girl whose dad took a loan before disappearing and she unsurprisingly has to pay it back. With the help Tear, a fairy companion to assist her to deal with the debt, Recettear the general shop is opened for business.

Can you meet the deadline each week or will Recette be evicted from her house and have her organs sold off ?
By the way, I completed the whole month without using the guide and its a thrill as well as nerve wrecking experience to meet each week debt collection deadline. The last payment was close. F-ing close but I manage to complete the game without dying once.
The dungeon section of the game isn't first class fantastic but unbelievably good for a indie game. I totally recommend someone to try it at least once. The bosses are cute.
Top-down sprite-based combat

I also completed Crystal Nightmare and scooped up all the possible spawn loot except the legendary Invincible Armour (The last and strongest armour).

Any anime/game recommendations, comments are welcome in the comment section below.

Your Sincerely,

Kazane Kagari

World Of Tanks by Kazane

World of Tanks Brief Overview

in otaku style (  Duh....)

By Kazane

First of all let me congratulate Hellraisers for being the WGL grand finals champion.
They overwhelmed EL gaming 7 to 1 with their brilliantly executed concentrated fire against opponent team rush.
tanks

CLASSES

Light tanks is the fastest tank class in the game with primary role of flanking and passive scouting. War Gaming League Grand Finals champions of 2015 and ALL contestants used soviet tier VIII T-54 lightweight tank in ALL of their matches and formations.
Medium tanks are upgraded version of light tanks with improved armour and firepower(both penetration & damage) while a reduction in the speed department.
Heavy tanks is the most heavily armoured class which is even more heavily armoured than medium with firepower that has lower penetration then medium but higher damage output albeit suffer a further speed reduction.
Tank destroyers is a class with the highest penetration power in the game and also have an overall higher firepower in term of damage than heavy tanks. They have an extremely armoured or well angled front that is way better compared to heavy tanks. They possessed the speed of medium or heavy tanks which resulted in very weakly armoured sides and back when compared to a heavy, medium and barely beating light tanks. The sides and back are bad. Really bad.
Artillery is the class with the highest damage output in the game but suffer from having the low penetration power, longest reload time and next to no armour on the tanks itself but they do have speed of light tanks and are mostly hidden behind allies. Both Quickybaby and Mighty jingles like to call them "scumbags" as they tend to rain death on unsuspecting tanks half a map away.

Caution : These descriptions are generalisation of the vehicles in that particular class but exceptional tanks with exceptional and interesting stats make them exception to what is written above.

The first three classes are generally more versatile than the latter two as both are very specialised vehicles with more unique play style. I recommend those who start out in this game to try one of the three classes first before venturing into the latter.

Damage Mechanics (General)

Every time a round is fired out of a tank and send flying straight into enemy armour, the round penetration value is pitted against the armour effective thickness and when its greater, the shot penetrates and the damage is dealt to the tank HP while insufficient penetration cause zero damage which is exactly like a bounce. A bounce occurs if a round collide with a plate of armour at 70 degrees or more and is basically a ricochet. Thus high penetration with low damage value is at least better than high damage with low penetration power as some damage can still be dealt.

However, a large part in this game involves skills as well and I have already mention in the previous post that advance tactics employed by the players include but not limited to the following below:

-Angling
-Side scrapping
-Reverse side scrapping
-Horizontal rocking/Wiggle
-Bait fish
-Hull down

Camouflage Mechanics (General)

Every tank in this game has a certain camouflage rating with light tanks having the highest score. It is also depend on the actions that is being carried out at the moment like a tank hidden behind bushes will be more stealthy than a stationary tank which is more stealthy than a moving tank which is also more stealthy than one which is currently firing shots. This hidden rating interact with the opponent tank view range stat and ultimately decide at which distance will you be visible to the enemy considering a direct and unobstructed path between the two of you.

The place where all your vehicles are stored in between battles and management of tanks and viewing of stats are done at here. But not without a bit of anime mod first for me and I personally prefer the vocaloid miku hanger.

Version 1 of the miku hanger is good but version 2 has outdone itself

For any violent disagreement, please state your opinion in the comment section below.

Hopefully, LAsuka will be joining me in the game after reading this post.
